One of the best ways to overcome doomerism, connect with your fellow humans, and gain an appreciation for the awe-inspiring Earth that we live in, is to spend time in nature and get your body moving!
The Outdoor Adventure Club is a platform for members to create and share group activities to invite others to share their love of the outdoors.
Any type of outdoor activity can be proposed. Some will be good for beginners, kids, or dogs, while others offer more advanced adventure opportunities that will challenge experienced outdoorspeople.
Example activities include hiking, biking, kayaking, caving, pickleball, swimming, climbing, and anything else that gets you outside and doesn't require a team sports league.
Activities are open to anyone, regardless of their membership in TVUUC.
Interested? Sign up here to indicate what activities you might want to participate in, and we'll add you to the list. Whenever outdoor activities are scheduled, we'll let you know!

Carpool: Meet at the TVUUC parking lot at 8:00 AM; we leave by 8:15. Or meet us at the Twin Arches Trailhead at 10:30 AM Eastern (the park sits on the time-zone line, so phones may show 9:30 Central).
Kid and dog friendly (dogs on a 6-ft leash). Visit two sandstone arches joined back to back, one of the largest natural arch complexes in the eastern U.S. Choose your route:
Short: Twin Arches Trail, 1.4 miles round trip, about 1 hour. Steep wooden stairs lead under the arches and up onto their tops.
Long: Twin Arches Loop, about 6 miles total, 3 to 4 hours, moderate. Drops about 450 feet to Charit Creek Lodge (restrooms), passes the Jake's Place homesite and big rock shelters, then climbs back to the arches.
Everyone hikes to the arches together; then the loop group continues on and the short group heads back for a picnic.
Getting there: GPS apps often miss Twin Arches Road. From the TN-297/TN-154 junction, go north on 154 for 1.9 miles, turn right on Divide Road (gravel) for 3.9 miles, then right on Twin Arches Road about 2 miles to the parking lot at the end. Vault toilets and picnic tables at the trailhead; no entrance fee.
Bring: lunch, water, sturdy shoes, layers, a bright layer (it's hunting season), rain gear, and a leash. The arch tops have unprotected cliff edges, so keep kids close.
